Laura Bulla is a self-taught artist, but she has been painting in oils and acrylics for more than 30 years.
Her current paintings reflect the love of line she developed during the 1980s, when she worked as an in-house craftsperson at a leather gallery in Nashville, Indiana.
“I specialized in artworks constructed in leather,” she explains, “such as sculptures and wall hangings.”
Bold curves and bright colors carry the eye through the varied subjects in her “Daydream Series” of paintings.
Laura pays special attention to compositional movement, and brushwork.
“It keeps the work fresh and lively,” she says.
Laura depicts her subjects in a whimsical manner, celebrating the imagination, and revealing fantastic moments in everyday life.
Laura paints both en plein air and in her studio, creating landscapes that reflect both local scenes and tropical environments discovered during her travels. Many of these works focus on the abstract nature of nature.
“Indiana winters find me in the studio revisiting those moments in paradise through the tip of my brush,” Laura says.
Laura’s work offers interesting glimpses of fleeting moments. Varied subjects, both local and tropical, are depicted in vibrant color and lively brushwork.
“I hope to engage the viewer in the glorious instant that inspires the soul,” Laura says.
